East of Noon
A film by Hala Elkoussy
East of Noon is set in the margins of a ‘failed state’: a country whose infrastructure has collapsed as a result of a failed revolution and a new military dictatorship. Almost everyone works against the law and there is an atmosphere of intimidation and fear. All hope for a better future seems to have vanished. In this desperate setting, a young women gets pregnant; an old woman running a pawn shop tells lyrical stories about fabulous other worlds; a man builds musical instruments out of electronic waste; an ancient sculpture emerges from the sand due to the forces of nature and tames the dark forces.
