about

vriza is an artist-run production house in Amsterdam. We develop, produce, and distribute films with visual artists and cross-border practitioners who use cinema to explore postcolonial and ecological issues, highlighting hidden struggles and challenging dominant views.

We support artists throughout their projects, assisting with development, fundraising, management, networking, and feedback. Together with our makers, we design strategies to reach diverse audiences through cinemas, theaters, museums, and community platforms in the Netherlands and beyond.

Built on long-term relationships and trust, we foster bold and reflective filmmaking.

history

vriza was founded in 1999 by artists Siebren de Haan and Lonnie van Brummelen. From 2001 to 2009, the foundation organized twelve site-specific public art projects: group exhibitions, solo presentations and interventions, including a series of exhibitions in their Amsterdam apartment and a public sculpture on a rooftop. vriza collaborated with Jeroen de Rijke, Marjetica Potrč, Matthijs de Bruijne, Pia Wergius, Wineke Gartz, Corinna Schnitt, Mark Hosking, Reinaart Vanhoe, Ilya Rabinovich, Florian Slotawa, a.o.

vriza is the acronym of the Dutch words vrijdag (Friday) and zaterdag (Saturday), the days that vriza’s exhibitions were open to the public.

In 2016 vriza changed into a production house for artist films.
